Description

The town's name derives from Latin and consists of the words "campus" (field) and "Nucara" (from "nux", or "nut"). Municipality in the province of Venice, located near the River Brenta, the area has always been linked to the cultivation of vines and production of fine and famous wines.
Although traces of the original settlers were removed from the frequent flooding of the Brenta, it is considered that the area was inhabited by the Venetian and then colonized by the Romans, as can be inferred by observing the position of the roads, that reflect the regular and schematic structure typical of Roman streets. The town was reported for the first time in a document dating from the year 897, when Emperor Berengar granted it to the Bishop of Padua, raising the discontent of the population. In the XIII century, Camponogara was directly involved in clashes against Ezzelino da Romano. Submitted to the Serenissima Republic of Venice, it was scenario of the War of the League of Cambrai, and only subsequently, the area enjoyed a period of peace and prosperity that gave way to the realization of elegant villas, which can still be admired. After the fall of the Serenissima, the territory passed to France, then, to Austria and finally to the Kingdom of Italy.
