Description

Municipality in the province of Udine, Fagagna is the ideal place to combine art, culture, culinary traditions and nature. It features several interesting walking itineraries around the village itself and in the surrounding areas.
It is certified that the area was inhabited since Roman times and that when the Empire fell, it was easy prey to the attacks of other populations. The Lombards settled here around the year 568. The first document, that reports the presence of a town, dates back to year 983, when Emperor Otto II granted the jurisdiction of Fagagna to the Patriarchate of Aquileia. During the first half of the XIII century, the reigning Patriarch Berthold of Andechs, divided the territories into "abitanza", a typical medieval institution with which he granted the lands to vassals, who in return, committed themselves to live in those places and to protect these properties for the patriarch, who during the XIV century was in contrast with the Count of Gorizia. In the XV century the town was under the rule of the Venetian Serenissima Republic. During the following centuries , the town submitted the same fate of the other adjacent localities of the entire region.
