Description

The town's name derives from the Germanic proper name "Freidank". Municipality in the province of Pordenone, located in Val Colvera in Carniche pre-Alps, which extends from 420 meters above sea level to over 2000 meters, represented by the peak of Mount Raut. It consists of several districts and villages, including Poffabro, a popular rural village with an extremely well-balanced architectural structure, however simple, with its stone houses, arches and balconies. The whole area is rich in rivers and features several extraordinarily beautiful and picturesque corners between woods and meadows. Departure point for memorable excursions between trekking paths and biking trails and famous for its excellent and appreciated cuisine traditions.
Frisanco been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by the discovery of interesting finds in some prehistoric caves located near the River Colvera. Traces of the Roman colonization are attested by the names given to the localities, first and foremost, the district of Poffabro, which derives from the Latin "decimam de Pratum Fabri" and the presence of a Roman road that passed nearby to Mount Raut. In the XI century, the area was under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Concordia. For a long while, the Valley Colvera found itself divided between the rule of the nearby fief of Maniago, to which belonged Poffabro and Casasola, while Frisanco and Cavassoche, belonged to the Domains of the Counts of Polcenigo. Later the rule passed to the Republic of Venice. For the following centuries the town shared the same fate and vicissitudes of the other nearby localities of the Friuli region.

No to miss:
- the Church of San Nicolò and San Liberale in Poffabro, which was built in the XVII century, on the remains of a pre-existing building and remodeled several times over the centuries. It features a white façade, decorated with a mosaic depicting the patron Saint. Popular and famous artists helped in completing the interior decorations, such as: Guardi, Marizza, and several others;
- the Church of St Osvaldo in Casasola, built in local stone, features a simple façade, surmounted by a pediment and flanked by a Bell Tower with a square base and a belfry with mullioned windows;
- the Church of Santa Fosca and Santa Maura in Frisanco, certainly built prior to 1492, it was rebuilt in respect of the original structure and enriched with XVII - XVIII century marble altars in Baroque style and frescoes of the XIX century;
- the Shrine of Our Lady of Health in Pian delle Merie, erected in 1873, in neo-Classical style;
- the XIX century Shrine of Our Lady in Stangjada, located in a high position;
- the Church of Saint Anthony in Lunghet;
- the Church of Villa Santa Maria;
- the Oratory of St. Floriano;
- the source Giulia, which springs beneath Mount Raut;
- the XVII century Palazzo Pognici in Frisanco.
