mostly sunny isolate piogge

Description

Municipality in the province of Macerata, located on a hill at a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast, a place rich in history with its typical medieval features: ancient fortified walls, narrow alleys, elegant buildings and several churches.
The first settlement, known as Sacramento, was built by the Romans on the site where today stands the village of Porto, of which there are few remains, but certainly enough to bear witness to their presence. The town was named for the first time in a document dating from 947, it was proclaimed municipality in the first half of the XII century. In the second half of the XVI century the inhabitants resisted with determination and pride against the Duke of Ferrara, not willing to be incorporated into his fief . At the time the town was known with the name Monte Sacro (Holy Mountain), but after the unification of Italy, it was necessary to avoid confusion with other towns with the same name, so the community decided to abandon the old name and replace it with Potenza (power), for its proximity to the ancient center of Roman origin called "Potentia", to which was added the adjective Piceno, in memory of first tribe populations, that had inhabited the area in prehistoric times.
