Vezzano is a municipality in the province of Trento, located in the heart of the Valley of the Lakes, in a transit zone between the main regional capital and Lake Garda, surrounded by the Brenta Dolomites towards South and by Madonna di Campiglio towards West.
Prehistoric Neolithic findings attest to the presence of settlements since ancient times. In 1527 the old village was built assigned the rank of Borgo by the Bishop of Trento, to thank and reward the inhabitants for their loyalty during the Rustic War. Spared from the destruction of Napoleon's troops, the town was chosen to host the XX Austrian army Corps led by General von Josef Roth in 1918.
Sites of Interest:
- the Church of St. Vigilio and Valentino, built in neo-Gothic style in the early XX century, replacing a previous one, remembered since the XIII century. Of particular value is the Renaissance tabernacle, where the relics of the Saints Valentine and Paretino are preserved. Property of Church is a late Gothic wooden triptych, which is now on display at the Diocesan Museum of Trento;
- the Bishop's Palace, in the village of Santa Massenza, privately owned since the early '900 and converted into a hotel;
- the Church of Santa Massenza, already mentioned in 1198;
- the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Ranzo, cited in 1537, features three naves and a Gothic style apse;
- the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Margone;
- the Church of San Bartolomeo in Fraveggio;
- the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, in Lon, with a Romanesque Bell Tower, topped by a pyramidal spire;
- the Church of San Lorenzo in Ciago, built in place of a previous small church, faces towards the East, whose foundation probably dates back to 1300, while is documented since 1491. The building is flanked by a Bell Tower, which probably was a Roman watchtower, used to signal, with fires and smoke, eventual attacks and is part of a defensive system between Castel Madruzzo, the hill of Rumo, Vigolo and Cadine. Its seems to have been erected earlier than 476 AD, the year of the fall of the Empire of Rome.
